The Firehouse Salon
We are living through the most significant shift in human creativity since Gutenberg. While may are stuck in a conversation about fear, replacement and redundancy the Firehouse Salon is having a different conversation entirely.
Each episode brings together unexpected guests at the intersection of creativity, science, art, technology and innovation, curious people who are leaning into this moment rather than away from it.
This is the age of the Tediophobe: people driven by a desire to explore, to make something worth making. The Firehouse Salon is their podcast.

Ep 41 - Narrative in the Age of AI
Use Left/Right to seek, Home/End to jump to start or end. Hold shift to jump forward or backward.
This time a conversation with Nicholas DeMille on the “engineering/architecture” of narrative.
We discussed salons and coffee houses as “social technologies” that emerge across history after technological shifts, and how social engineering (temperance/prohibition) and PR (Bernays using Freud) show the dangers of manipulation.
We explored AI as a sparring partner that accelerates thinking but can crowd out the slower creative process, contrasting dictation, notebooks, and writing by hand with AI-generated drafts that feel sanitised.
We argued that human creativity involves exchange, lived experience, discretion, curiosity, and word-of-mouth trust, while AI boosts derivative output, discovery, and playful creativity for non-experts, yet risks noise, job losses, and reduced learning and curiosity.
